To me it is also interesting to look at the fact that the majority of people who are pro-life with regards to abortion are the ones who support the death penalty. What sense does this make? We are not okay with killing one, but we are okay with killing another. I believe as a society we should condemn all forms of killings of abortion to state legislated murder. The United States is the only western country that still allows this type of punishment. We as a society need to show that an eye for an eye is not the right way to deter crime.
In my opinion, we need to stop the sensationalization of murder. Every time we turn on the television or many of the video games young people play have people getting shot or murdered. If we want to end violence and deadly killings we need to change how we view death. This needs to begin with ending capital punishment as a whole in our country. We also need to address mental health issues, drug abuse, domestic violence and have a better way of controlling guns on the streets. At the end of the day we want our communities to be safer and better places to live. No, the death penalty is not effective.
