In Red-gate, the motivation to encourage the staff is by using Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. It is important for Red-gate to make sure that all he staff motivates themselves. Red-gate’ CEO, Simon believed that rewards and unconscious desires can motivate all the staff to improve the work’s quality. There are steps by steps to fulfil the staff need in order to motivates them in certain ways and needs. Maslow’ hierarchy of needs like a pyramid have five motivational needs.
In Maslow ’hierarchy, stated that Red-gate should begin with physiological. Red-gate must satisfy the basic which biological and physiological needs, which cover air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex and sleep. The canteen provides plenty of hot and fresh food every single dish, every single time. The fridges in Red-gate offices also full with juices, fruit and yoghurt. The management also provide entertainment room for the staff to relaxes themselves where staff can have regular massages in the office, Yoga, Squash, Cricket, Tai-Chi Club, Photo Club. Staff can learn other language, example like French, Japanese and English lesson. Staff had their own choir while singing lessons. During the summer time, a van will deliver free ice-creams to all staff hired by Red-gate. Red-gate also rewards ultimate private shopping to all staff at John Lewis Cambridge in form of gift vouchers after operation hours. The only them enjoys their private shopping.
Secondly, motivation covers safety needs where Red-gate will protect their staff from any bad influences, secures themselves, right, law, stability, freedom from fear. Thirdly, love and belongingness needs also part of the motivation. Staff needs to have a good relationship, intimacy, affection and love. This relationship can built from team, family, friends and romantic relationships. Red-gate put the staff’s well-being as their priority to make sure that all staff being happy working with the company. Employees from all departments are encouraging to mix socially in all the time. Red-gate also organized Feel Good Fund.
The fourthly, Red-gate also motivates their worker to encourage staff to improve the achievement, mastery in work, independence in their teamwork, upgrades staff’ status, dominance, prestige, self-respect and respect from others. Lastly, in motivation there have self-actualization needs. Red-gate is realizing personal potential, self-fulfilment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences. Person comes to know what is meaning of the life from the peak of their experienced. Red-gate can achieved this level when the staff fell euphoria, joy and wonder with their own job.
In Red-gate, their staff implied no political between them that can make all staff can tolerate uncertainty and perceive the others. The staff also spontaneous in though and action because Red-gate practices teamwork in any work do. By this way, staff also can solve any problem together, problem-centered. Red-gate also make enable staff satisfying in relationship with other staff. Red-gate also gives some privacy to staff where they can work from home and with short-time have attend to offices.
