my table was my Department Manager and her name is Lily. She is the nicest person I ever met in my whole working career, a Filipina lady who always thinks about her staff before herself. I respect my manager the same respect I gave to my mother as I see her kind heart and pure sincerity in her words. One busy and frantic afternoon, she suddenly approached me and asked me “ Kalvin, when are you going back to school so you can help me more around here.” I stopped for a moment like I was daydreaming and I told myself “ This is it, I am going back to school next semester and pursue a degree in nursing.” Other nurse coworkers said they saw a huge potential in me since I helped them a lot on some of the patient care that we do on our patients in our hospital.
I was also the curious type of person who want to know things that is new to me, sometimes they even called my nosy. I guess, being nosy in a good and educational way makes someone to be better in the field that they want to choose and my nurses co-workers saw that in me. After all of the pressures and questioning myself, I finally decided to go back to school. It was summer in the year of 2016 when I decided to get my first set of general education classes that I need to get my degree in nursing.
The classes were a little hard for me since I was out of school for a long time and now feel like a freshman in highschool. Yet, after some time, all of my lessons are going back to my memories, like Algebra, History and some sentence building skills that I once learned in high school. Now, 2017 winter intersession, I am in the end of my 1st year as a college student. I also have a plan on getting a second degree in Computer Programming as I see the need in revisions in some of the hospitals repetitive charting systems. I want to make a program that will ease the time of the nurses being in the computer and jeopardizing the time spending in the patient care area. Nurse Informatics Specialists is now my new goal and I will never get tired of studying in order for me to pursue this goal of mine.
As for the other students, immigrant or a full time worker like me who got a feeling that they got stuck to what they were doing right now. I would tell them to never stop achieving things or goals that they think they need to advance themselves on their current situation. Do not stop believing that you can do it and you alone can help yourself grow. Sometimes we just need a little push or an ice breaker in our lives to keep moving forward. Being inspired occasionally needs a person, event, or an eye opening scenario for us to wake up and find what is our true goal in life. We may learn it in a nice way or in the hard way but either way, reaching the steps in our goal in life is what is necessary for us to move forward and not be intimidated by the life’s shortcomings. Always remember to look ahead wherever we came from and keep our eyes consistent in the our ladder of success and never look back. I find it very useful to be inspired. Wherever we may be, from North America thru Asia. Do not be contented on what you have, Dream big and Dream Very big.
