from copying Eli Whitney's invention. Eli Whitney made barley any net profit, even after
getting some money from other states.
It was not fair. More then a million bales of cotton were being produced. He was
not getting credit for his own invention. Something had to be done. War was about to
start against France. The government was looking for contractors who could provide
guns. So Eli Whitney promised to manufacture 10,000 rifles within a two-year period of
time. The government accepted his bid in 1798.
Eli Whitney faced many trails after making this promise. Sadly, he was only able to
produce a fraction of what he said he would make in a certain time frame. It took 10
years for him to complete the manufacture of 10,000 arms. To make up for that, Eli
Whitley produced 15,000 muskets, which he supplied in two years. Eli Whitley is now
known as "The Father of Modern Technology."
Eli Whitley finally settled down. He got married to a woman named Henrietta Edwards.
They had four children together. His children were Frances Edwards Whitney, Elizabeth
Fay Whitney, and Susan Edwards Whitney. He also had a son named Eli Whitney Jr.
who continued to work in his father’s manufacturing business as an adult. Sadly, Eli
Whitney died on January 8, 1825. He passed in New Haven, Connecticut.
Eli Whitney has made history. Today people remember him as the inventor of The Cotton
Gin. He is an inspiration. He deserved the name " The Father of Modern Technology."
He also died as a Christian. There is no proof whether he lived the Christian lifestyle,
but he did claim to be one. He is often talked about. His inspirational story is taught in
school. Eli Whitney was a man of courage. Eli Whitney will always be remembered.
