. Trump states, “It will be lifted- this ban… we have to do it… we must find out what is going on… I will use this power to protect America… I will suspend immigration.” (Trump) Using the word “we” in his speech eliminates the barrier between the people and president and ultimately suggests that Trumps campaign is a combined effort between what he believes is best for the country as well as what the citizens would like to change in order to better the US Trump’s ability to use seemingly ordinary language of “common folks, “has enhanced the techniques. Trump uses language to put himself in the good-guy perception of the common people, while the other politicians, Democrats, elites, government institutions, the media are the enemies. “And by the way we have no choice,” (Trump) in regard to present immigration issues in America. This validates the opinions of Donald Trump to the audience as he uses the propaganda technique of false dilemma to present two solutions to a pending problem, however, instead of balancing both sides of the argument, Trump leads his audience into believing that his opinion is the right one and the best solution to Americas national security
Propaganda, presents information to influence an audience. It often presents selective facts with intention to encourage a particular response. It uses loaded messages to produce an emotional response rather than rational response to the information presented to the audience. The desired result is a change of the attitude toward the subject in the targeted audience to further a political agenda. Trump also employs pathos. He masterfully taps into the emotions of his followers, especially their fear, anger, and their desire for justice. Trump also does a fantastic job with ethos. His favorite thing to do is to praise himself, telling you how much people love him and how great a business he has built. When pressed by an interviewer to defend his bold claims as President, he regularly changes his approach to his favorite ethos argument, “I’ve built a great company.” (Trump) But paranoia is energized by the notion of a threat, and this idea, this is what Trump offers the American people. He offers the notion of an American way is being threatened, that it may face extinction. It may be over thrown from within by alien cultural and from without by foreign states stealing American jobs and markets. The slogan “Make America Great Again” evokes the loss of the American dream.
