If I had the opportunity to be Jessie Duff’s sports psychologist, it would be quite hard to recommend what she should start doing mentally. This would be hard to do because, as previously mentioned, there wasn’t a lot of information on her that I was able to find. Everything that I was able to find about her showed that she didn’t over stress herself or have many bad habits when it comes to preparation or actually during competition. Aside from what I have mentioned that she already does before or during a competition, I could say that she should start envisioning how she wants to do every particular moment during her competition. I also think that a good thing for her to do would be to possibly find a way to clear her mind hours before the competition, rather than trying to clear her mind moments before the competition. If she is able to do that than she leaves her mind a lot more open to think about her movements instead of how not to focus on her competitor’s targets or the competitors themselves. Using the time that she saves from trying to clear her mind right before the competition, she could go over in her mind repeatedly about the steps she needs to take, the breaths she needs to take and the calmness that she wants to feel as she completes the competition. Another really good way to get ready for her competition would be for her to have a strong mental preparation program that she is able to participate in whenever she feels that she may need it. Whether it’s right before a competition, after a competition or a long while before a competition. Whether competing or not, it is always good for the athlete to be mentally prepared for anything that may come her way. She has to be prepared for the loss, the win, freezing, making a mistake, trash talk from opponents, or any other unforeseeable occurrence. A good way for her to achieve at her highest possibility, she would need to make her goals very clear to herself and even the people around her. Saying or writing these goals down make them more realistic and more important. It is easy to make goals in your mind and then not work your hardest to achieve them because if you fail to reach them or try your hardest to reach them, nobody else knows. Doing this doesn’t ensure that you make yourself better. I’m very happy and appreciative that I was able to come to know Jessie Duff both as a shooter, and a person.
