Social networking is the use of internet-based social media programs for making connections with friends, family, classmates, customers and clients. Social networking can be for social purposes, business purposes or both through sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Yelp. Social networking is also a significant target area for marketers seeking to engage users.

Depending on the social media platform users can contact with any other user. In other cases, users can contact anyone they have a connection to, and subsequently anyone that contact has a connection to, and so on. Some services require users to have a preexisting connection to contact other users.

Social Network is the:

- Network of social interactions and personal relationships.

- a dedicated website or other application that enables users to communicate with each other by posting information, comments, messages, images, etc.

The profiles can be for dual purpose: one, they allow friends or contacts to identify users from their profiles; and two, the data entered by the users is used by Social Networking Sites to connect with other users who have a similar background.

4. Upload content: The Social Networking Sites allow its users to upload text messages, photographs, audio and video files at free of cost.

5. Build conversations: Content posted by users can be browsed and commented upon by all Users who form part of the community. Content can also be tagged from third party sites on subjects that interest the group.

6. Chat client: Most Social Networking Sites have chat clients and Users who can chat with each other in real time.

7. E-mail: Users can send e-mails to each other. The Social Networking Sites also send e-mail alerts whenever a member is tagged in a third party post. This enables Users to learn when a fellow member has connected to them.

8. Create Pages: Users are allowed to create pages where they can post articles or photographs related to a theme. The pages can also be used to promote businesses.

Website refers to the collection of World Wide Web (WWW) files that include content (multimedia), typically identify with a domain name located at same server and prepare & maintain as a collection of information by a people, group or organization. A website can be access through public Internet protocol (IP) network, i.e. internet by referencing a uniform resource locator (URL) that identifies the particular site.

A company tells you how to get through website by giving you address of their home page. From home page, you can get through other sites. We can access and get through Web pages by HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol). A website can be a personal website, a commercial website, a government website or a nonprofit organization website. It can be work for individual, a business, other organization.
