According to the social psychologists, there is insistence in a fair society that takes into consideration the different type of people in that community. The society has people who have varied characters and beliefs (Tavris &Aronson, 35). These differences bring about the diversity in the community. On the public ethics, it insists on dependence on the different talents of individuals to come help in delivering services to the people. This way, there is exchange of ideas among the public officers. The ethical issues insist on the diverse group of people that can combine effort for good delivery of services.
The society also insists on moral standards. It develops the individuals through interaction. Moral development is the belief of any society. Therefore, it is the responsibility of a community to ensure that the members are of good moral standards. The societal values that such standards inculcate include virtues like respect for self and hard work. The ethical issues in public sector, on the other hand, insists on sound moral standards that facilitate development. Such moral standards include honesty, hard work and competence that are important in driving the public corporations.
The ethical issues in the public sector are guidelines that influence Professional Corporation among the appointed officers. Such laws govern the conducts of the individuals who take part in public service. The professions strictly adhere to the code of ethics in the public sector. When the officers go against the ethical codes they are liable to punishment by the laws. The society, according to social psychology ensures that it encourages good behavior by using positive reinforcements. It also uses punishment as a negative reinforcement to those who show behaviors that are socially unacceptable (Tavris &Aronson). All in all, the society has direct impact on service delivery in relation to the different abilities in the community. Social psychologists also insists on the role of the society in molding the individuals by using the available institutions to bring a morally upright community.
According to social psychology, they insist on the role of the elders as role model to the young generation (Tavris &Aronson 65). The elders have the obligation to present behaviors that can positively influence the character formation of a young man. They have to show behaviors that the young people can emulate to become better people in the society. This practice goes beyond the ethnic lines because they apply generally to the whole society. In the public sector, there is the role of senior servant to possess characters that are admirable to the junior members of the sector. The government emphasizes on appointing to such offices, individuals that have admirable characters. Such behavior is worth emulating. Most of the appointed officers have the characters that make them role models to others.
The other part of this discussion talks about the differences of the social psychology and the ethical issues in relation to the ethnic diversity. Social psychology describes ethnic diversity in terms of the individual differences and the behaviors that people acquire from the society. Contrary to this, ethical issues consider diversity in terms of different skills that people have, and the contributions of such skills to the improvement of the sector.
The other part that shows a difference is in the concept of learning in the society and that gearing towards public service. Social psychology insists on the role of society in molding an individual according to the societal standards. These type of learning involves observing what others from the same ethnic group do, and emulating the desired traits. It also involves discouraging the behaviors that are socially unacceptable by way of punishment. This is different from the competence that the code of ethics demand in the public corporation. The state departments ensure that the quality of the services they provide march the level of training in the sector. As a result, they ensure that learning involves technical training of the individuals who occupy such positions. The competence of the officers dictate the level of education for the individual. Most of the learning, therefore, involve the formal learning to gain the necessary skills. It discusses ethnic groups in relation to professionalism, unlike social psychologists who insist on learning from the experience of the older people (Tavris &Aronson 88).
In conclusion, the society and public service have some similarities and differences that an individual needs to understand. The public service aims to provide services to the people. The society must set standards that bring up such individuals, in an atmosphere that brings the concept of the society in relation to public service. The other factor to note is the importance of the ethical issues in any corporation. The psychologists show this importance by suggesting the need for integration of the society and the ethical diversity at the community level and professional level. On the differences we have the societal learning according to psychology and learning that involves professionalism and the research states the differences.
