places and conduct a deal, where if you have a flyer you get half price etc., which makes the consumer return the flyers and can be reused again. Flyering needs to be done at busy times of the day, during lunch time periods when everyone is about. Airports and train stations would be a good place to flyer as new tourists are arriving every day and you want to get a foot in the door first.
Flashmobs would be a great idea to get people interested in your tours by perhaps getting your staff to join in a crowd. We have seen such activities during the fringe festival where numerous show actors, present there shows in bustling tourist areas of Edinburgh normally along the Royal Mile.
Viral videos are very much a thing in todays society and spread like wildfire amongst social networks, although it sounds easy to start a viral video it’s actually a difficult thing to get right. Viral videos need to be kept short in a length and have a strong heading to allow it to attract users to see it. Perhaps it could be a viral video of a scared customer in the dungeons or a fake ghost.
Another form of marketing is the use of Radio, TV and billboard advertising which is really a good way to promote a business but it can be expensive and at the end of the campaign a waste of money. Radio has lost a large percentage of its popularity amongst the recent years, promotion to students and tourist would not work here in Edinburgh seeing as though students no longer listen to the radio and tourists generally wouldn’t have access to the radio while there here for the short time there here. TV adverts are generally used for big campaigns, a company that is of large scale and can afford such advertising prices. COET is to small and the demand for their tours is unethical to pay for an advert on TV and rather focus on the basics first. A billboard advert could be a successful way of promoting the COET by having a billboard coming in from the Airport or having advertisements on the trains that arrive in Edinburgh.
