NBC purchased the rights to broadcast the Barclay’s Premier League starting in 2013, which is generally held to be the best league in the world, for $250 million dollars declaring, “…clearly the sport is the No. 1 sport in the world.” (Baxter)

The world’s most popular sport is growing in leaps and bounds in the United States. Fueled by big TV deals to broadcast the best competitions from the European Champions League to the World Cup, the growing strength of the men and women’s national teams, and the rapid growth of Major League Soccer it should soon eclipse the popularity of sports like basketball and baseball in the hearts and minds of Americans.
