makes it harder for someone to leave it all behind for an experiment. One invention that would hurt this experiment is a TV. The whole purpose of Thoreau’s experiment was to gain knowledge about the beauty that surrounded him, and a TV would take out the simplicity of his experiment. A TV is used for entertainment, or to catch up with what is going on in the world, and if that was used in this experiment, it would ruin the whole purpose of being alone in the woods. The TV would make it difficult to have a direct connection with nature and God, because it would distract a person from the simple living and the deeply rooted connection with the natural world. Although most people today enjoy owning a TV to relax for a few hours and get some entertainment, Thoreau’s project would be pointless with it. Because of all the distractions of a TV, it is clear why it hurt Thoreau’s experiment and its purpose of living simply.
In summary, strong will might seem like a small factor in a huge experiment like this, but it is mainly what helps such a difficult experiment achievable. Besides the mind, the essential resources to able to survive in the woods are crucial; luckily, there is plenty amount for resources like trees, water, and etc today. Thoreau’s experiment would be possible even today as long as one has the motivation and determination for it, and since there is plenty of natural resources to survive off of in the woods. Living this way for a period of time would actually help the average American because one can understand how to live with out all the new materialistic items to survive.
