Facebook and Twitter are the number one sources of information during crises majorly because my friends and family are on social media. The television and emails come in at the second and third slots respectively as preferred means of communication both in the presence or absence of a crisis.

The resignation of Sullivan as the President stirred reactions not only amongst the students but also the alumni and sponsors affiliated to the University of Virginia (Daniel et al, p.166). Most of the stakeholders could not comprehend why Sullivan had been compelled to resign in spite of her service to fellow students being above reproach. The institution failed to realize that it was an internationally acknowledged entity whose actions were subject to scrutiny hence the need to transparent in its actions. Transparency and ethics have become key guiding points in human interactions. Transparency necessitates that an individual or a group avails all the information relevant to a case without any distortions in the truth of the matter. The intentions of the University would have been accepted had the board sought to be transparent. The students along with the alumni would have been made able to understand that the changes in courses were in the best interests of learning procedures at the institution had the board been transparent. In the modern world it is mandatory that companies and organizations are transparent in their dealings. Transparency is vital because it helps build the trust of clients in the various companies and organizations. It is both a legal and ethical practice that organizations are adequately transparent when dealing with consumers. The social media has made it easier for activists to force companies into being more transparent. The social media is used to create awareness that attracts the attention of the relevant organization or company. The organization has to make a statement regarding the topic of discussion on social media further boosting the transparency seen within institutions and organizations.
