External applications of using VAR would be to develop a game that users can use outside of a firm’s physical property. This includes advances in game technology like the recent phenomenon of Pokémon Go (Claasen, 2016). Other examples would be taking the 2D online shopping experience and making it real, or being able to “try” on outfits using a VAR headset at home while conducting online shopping. These are only but a few examples of how a firm can harness and implement VAR technology and engage potential consumers.

There are some risks or concerns that must be addressed if a firm choose to implement any of this technology. For starters, developers must be concerned with overall safety. This includes the external, internal, and even human environments in which VAR is to be used. There have not been studies done that determine the long-term effects on human health, and just this past summer there was the issue with external safety issues regarding the Pokémon Go phenomenon at the Toronto Ferries Terminal (SACHGAU, 2016). Developers of VAR must be aware that applying this technology in public spaces increased the chances of injuring people unnecessarily.

VAR has the potential to move humanity into the future with ease. While there might be some risks involved in areas like public safety or personal safety, the benefits far outweigh the consequences of not perusing this technology to the fullest. As technology becomes easier to afford, it will only be a matter of time before we see VAR impacting ever faucet of life as we know it.
