As can be seen from the first graph, the largest proportion of social networking users is group of people at the age from 20 to 29, at 49%. By contrast, only 18% of people aged from 30 to 39 use social networks. Nearly half of responses spend over 5 hours per day for some purposes such as communication, entertainment, reading news,… While 92 of them claim that communication is the most important demand. Facebook, Zalo, Youtube are three most popular channels chosen to meet those demands. In order to use social networks, over 40% of those interviewed often select laptops/desktops and mobilephones more than tablets and other devices.
DISCUSSION
- Summary
After the research, we have more experiences in capturing data and processing information. Our research provides an overview of the demands of using social networks in Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City, International University in specific. Likewise, the result above pointed out the impacts of social networks on people nowadays.
- Discussion
Putting these data together, we draw a conclusion that social networks has attracted most of users by many utilities, but there are some bad effects on society. According to the statistical number above, communication is claimed as the most important elements that promote the social networks development. Indeed, social networks allows all of us to connect globally. Nowadays, instead of waiting a letter, users just text message on Facebook; instead of wasting money to go abroad for meeting, people just use visual meetings. Therefore, individuals can make new friends, build connections or simply extend their personal base by connecting and interacting with friends. Social networks helps us to exchange news and get updates quickly, easily and cheaply. In addition, people can use social networking sites as a source of entertainment when they are boring such as share feelings and what's happening in daily life, comment and like what is interesting. There are a lot of sources of information in social network, so it is convenient to read news or search information. Moreover, students can use social network for group study by creating a group only for studying. You can also share information about your projects, homework, assignments, exams, due dates. Because of some great features, social networks is more and more popular.
Despite some advantages, there are disadvantages of social network. Due to the convenience in communication and entertainment, users tend to be attracted by social network. According to the survey, the majority of young people spend lots of time on Facebook, YouTube, Zalo. This makes them become more lazy, increase the rate of getting many diseases, effects on the eyes and brain badly. Furthermore, the information on social media comes from various source leads to the out of control. People especially the youth can reach out of the wrong information and leads to the wrong actions. Moreover, young people are lack of confidence and soft skills if they only concern about the visual world.
- Recommendation
- Manage time effectively: spend less than 5 hours per day on social network, make plan for the work and entertainment respectively
- Participate in outdoor activities: opportunity to improve soft skills, get experiences, make friends
- Spend more time for family and friends
- Improve the knowledge to clarify the useful information.
