In this movie, a man falls in love with his computer who talks to him like a human. As Turkle states that these robots are, “designed to make you feel as though you’re understood,” (Turkle 3) completely eliminating the need for getting to know another human on a personal level. These robots and the Internet are giving you what you want without the effort. Similarly to text messaging or email, it removes personal confrontations making finding the right answer simple. People ultimately want to an easy way out of finding a companion and the right answer. Technology is a solution that removes the obstacle in finding someone who understands you. Relationships flourish when people connect on a personal level.
In conclusion, for all of the progress and benefits that technology brings to society, there are major downfalls in the modern era. We are on a trend in which relationships are being shaped by the machines surrounding us. Humans have become engulfed in technology, and the way it makes things, especially social relationships, easier. Technology makes accessing information unimaginably easy, removing the need for human interactions. It also is changing the dynamic of past relationships, and is shaping new ones. Rather let us limit the use, and minimize the negative effects. The claim of the author was to have society realize how our relationships are changing. Our society needs to work on building connections and having real relationship built around compassion. Let us not get lost behind a touch screen and lose our identity.
