individuals. The average American is so focused on the "stereotypical terrorist" that we fail to see that a terrorist can look a lot more like one of us than one of them. The third step would be to leave the Middle East alone. Most of our international problems stem from the United States showing an inability to mind our own business. One way we can cut ourselves off from the craziness of the Middle East is by stopping our dependents on foreign oil. Everyone in America knows at this point that the country is only interested in protecting the oil in the Middle East, and not its people. The final way we can fight terrorism is by not funding and training terrorist organizations. Its common knowledge at this point that the U.S. not only funds but trains rebel forces in countries such as Syria. I’m not willing to go as far as to say America is the real terrorists, but democracy looks a lot like terror when it comes in the form of drone strikes. 9/11 did a lot of damage to this country, it was more than just towers. I think in the quest to fight terrorism we began to do things we are not proud of. From torture to funding rebels, to drone strikes, the U.S. has made a number of missteps, but I believe we can fight terrorism and win, but first we must see it in ourselves.
