Wearing Prosthesis Is Not the Best Solution for Amputees

The most burdensome challenge that being faced by most prosthesis user is the high maintenance and the tremendous amount required for using the prosthesis as a replacement of lost limbs. Eventhough there is insurance to compensate the cost of prosthesis, they did not fully covered the cost for the prosthesis(Gillian Mohney,April 2013).Matt Alburquerque ,the president of Next Step Orthodontic and Prosthetic in Manchester said that the insurance will cover up to 80% of those new prosthesis but the another 20% cost left is still quite a huge amount to cope with. Not only that ,the insurance only cover the cost of the basic prosthesis and does not bother to cover the cost of a modern prosthetic leg.(The Associate Press, April 2013).The average price for a prosthesis is $30,000 which means that it cost approximately $ 3000 per policy period .Nevertheless ,with that kind of extravagant cost it would break the bank of many household users ,especially with the current downturn worldwide economy right now.

Not only the high cost of the prosthesis is quite troublesome, the prosthesis also require to be replaced every few years. A prosthetic device only last for 3 to 5 years the most, even with the most expensive prosthesis. Eventhough some people may make theirs last longer ,but others especially the growing children frequently need to change theirs more often as their bodies undergo change and growth .This means that it will required a lot of money to replace it every five year .Basically it can be conluded that the cost problem will being a major problem and too burdensome to deal with.

In a nutshell, amputees should change their perspective toward the usage of prosthesis which they believe that it was the best choice in living their live normally. This is because the consequences of prosthesis lead to internal injuries in a long term basis which may lead to osteoporosis and lack of activities which eventually will take the amputees to face obesity. Beside that, wearing prosthesis exposed the amputees with dire consequences that cause serious external complication and also lead to various type of diseases. Lastly, prosthesis cause the most burdensome challenge which is the high cost of maintenance and to make it worse the prosthesis need to be replaced every few years. Therefore, wearing prosthesis is not the best solution for amputees.
