Since I was hired as an urban planner for the city of Los Angeles, I would think about the urban gangs when designing the city because it will help me find out what type of thing the city needed to lower the crime rates. Also encouraging the gang members and those who want to join to turn over a new leaf to follow another way of life. I would incorporate activities for outdoors such basketball courts, soccer fields, baseball fields, and many more to encourage the young to find hobbies that they will enjoy instead of join gangs. I would design the community that will not separate the community between the wealthy and the poor people in the community. I would ask the community and gang members in the projects, this way people can interact with each other which could lead to the new direction for the gangs. I would like to make the schools safe and friendly. I would do this be encouraging the children more to be a part of extracurricular activities. I would also allow the children to play sports without having the families pay a lot of money. I feel that doing this will help the gangs find a different path of life without having a negative impact on the children. As a parent myself, I want my children to grow up in a safe place with the opportunities to proper. There are sometimes circumstances where growing up can lead to just growing up to survive in having a place to live. When this happens can lead to living in the slums and join a gang.
