The growth that young adults who studied abroad achieve will finally show through their success in pursuing an occupational career when they graduate from university. The personal and social advantages they gain at a foreign university will transfer into their work-life which is proven by 84% of the students who acknowledge these skills as valuable for the job market (AIFS Study Abroad, 2013). In addition to that, a study was able to show the employers angle by stating that graduates who have been in a foreign country during university are more likely to be given more responsibility in their work environment (Kinloch, 2016). On top, the IES states that employees who studied abroad earn about 7% more than their colleagues who did not take the chance to study in a foreign country because of the lack of diverse experience they have. The alumni students, on the other hand, were able to find their jobs in less than six months after they graduated from university (Career Outcomes Study, 2015, p.9). Eventually, not only the employees who have been abroad to study and broaden their horizon, but also the employers see a great benefit for their future employees when they lived within another culture for a longer period of time.
The positive impacts that a semester abroad can have are diverse and built upon each other like stated above. First of all, the personal advantages that a student can achieve from studying in a foreign country are immense. The exposure to a new environment influences the behavior in the long-term when unknown circumstances become objects of daily life. Therefore, the students’ social skills improve and enable them to be a responsible part of society. Finally, these advanced skills help each individual to pursue the satisfactory career they want to achieve and increases their chance of a secure job in the future. In conclusion, these are the reasons why every student should take the opportunity the study in a foreign country for at least one semester.
