Should Cigarette Smoking Be Limited in the U.S?

There are many arguments on why smoking is alright to do. One of those arguments is that the government can not take away your freedom to smoke.  Now the argument for this is that the government can not step in if you are causing harm to yourself, only if you are harming others. However, as I stated previously, cigarettes are not only harmful to yourself, but also to the other people around you. Since there is evidence that it impacts other people’s lives there should be a limit on how much people can smoke and where they can smoke.

Some people also argue that tobacco is in no way like illegal narcotics. They believe that it is not as addictive as, let’s say, heroine. While, yes it in no way similar to heroine, it still has the addictive property to it. Actually, it is said that tobacco producing companies try to produce the most addictive substance that they can so that consumers will come back to buy their product once again. Since cigarettes can be seen as something that is so addictive and bad for you, it would be completely helpful to limit the amount you can have.

Others say that limiting the amount of cigarettes is unreasonable because anything can be  addictive. On the other hand, they compared exercise and coffee as things that can be seen as addictive. This is not a good comparison because growing addicted to cigarettes is extremely worse. Unlike most everyday things you can become addicted to, cigarettes are horrible for your health.

Smoking, to inhale and exhale the smoke of tobacco. It is something that 35.6 million adult Americans do. Smoking cigarettes is an addictive habit that is killing thousands of people each year. It is something that many people wish they could stop doing, but continue because of the firm hold that tobacco has on their lives. Why on Earth would we let this continue to harm so many Americans? We could make a stand, and limit the amount of cigarettes people could have. We could learn from our mistakes and make better choices. However, the most important thing we could do is save innocent American lives.
