We also try to complement them with selective induction of expat talent as part of our larger global talent management plan. As part of our cross-pollination strategy, a talent exchange programme is already underway between India and Africa.”
“People continue to be the most important driver of our strategic intent and initiatives. Our extended global presence makes it imperative to implement a global talent management plan that helps achieve a balance between promotion of local talent and expat induction. The ‘Africa Leadership Initiative’ is a step in this direction to complement our initiatives in India and South Asia to create a sustainable talent pipeline for our operations.” Said Sunil Bharti Mittal in his statement in the annual report of 2011-12

The management of the Indian and the other Asian countries consists primarily of Indian talent which is also reflected in the structure of the organization where the Indian and other Asian countries’ businesses are grouped together into one unit.
The management of the African operations however are slightly different with an India CEO and MD heading the international Business but with an African as the CEO of the African operations. This is consistent with the strategy that Airtel wants to adopt and as is apparent from the statements of the chairman, Mr. Mittal.
A mix of managerial talent from India and locally sourced talent from Africa will allow the business to take advantage of its best practices and synergies across the countries as well as allow the company to adapt to the needs and preferences of the local customers and the local business environment.
