Taking a gap year

A gap year can provide a person with valuable new skills that any employer will be impressed by. Cultural awareness, organization, and an ability to work independently are just some of the skills that are gained by taking a year out. On a gap year it's impossible not to meet new people. Throughout school and university, we are surrounded by the same people but taking a gap year allows us to discover others, make new friends, and interact with people from all walks of life. A gap year will provide you with much more than any classroom setting ever can. We can learn a lot in the classroom, but it isn't until we put it into practice in the real world that we really understand what's going on. A gap year lets us learn as we do and there's much more room for new experiences to enter our lives. There is also the opportunity to learn a lot more about yourself and who you are as a person. Along with all the rewarding experiences that come with a gap year, this can be a very expensive alternative especially coming straight out of high school. During the year you decide to travel and indulge in this lifestyle you are missing out on the opportunity to be earning money or even studying full time.

Undergoing re-training and upskilling

Retraining programs help workers maintain and develop updated task-specific skills that help their companies move forward. Specialized skills often take years to develop and master, so retraining programs and continuous learning programs help employees develop deeper and richer skills in their chosen profession. Without retraining efforts, many employees would lack technical skills and knowledge necessary to meet work demands. Some retraining programs teach skills that not only increase overall productivity, but also improve products and services. Retraining programs educate workers, but they also open doors to new and advanced production methods that improve products, ultimately satisfying customers. Without retraining programs, a company may not be able to keep up with businesses that offer competitive products. Sometimes upskilling can result in working out of your comfort zone. At times this might be challenging and confusing. Retraining can also be expensive if you are having to pay for some of it yourself.
