Life, Death and Prom

just like what Iona said, from the movie Pretty In Pink, she said she had a friend who did not go to prom. On certain days her friend would get this great feeling that she is missing something, so her friends would check her purse, make sure she has her keys and make sure she has her kids. She would have everything, so she said it was “symptoms” of not going to prom.
Many people would say that movies, such as Pretty in Pink, gave prom such a huge hype that it will never live up to what you believe it should be. As expressed in the article 8 Reasons Why prom Isn’t A Big Deal At All, by Chrissa Hardy. You get out of prom what you put in, so if you go in with an attitude you are not gonna have a good time then you are going to have a horrible time. If you go in thinking positively with good hopes, then you will have an amazing time. The article also expresses that, many girls may also not want to go in fear that some girl will have the same dress as them. Say a girl does, who cares. Not only can that happen at possibly every event you go to in your life, it is not like you will see them all the time. At my prom, there was two other girls who had the same dress as me. I only saw one of the girls once, and we were walking by each other and I did not even realize we had the same dress till after I passed her. Many of the reasons given on why not to go to prom, are so petty. The article says “you will not marry your prom date,” (Hardy) who goes into prom thinking that their prom date is their future husband.
In conclusion, you should not miss out on prom because of these petty reasons. Prom is a once in a lifetime event, and you will never get to relive it again. So why waste a possibly great memory, on not wanting to have the same dress as someone or not having a date.
