I remember when studied physics in high school in China, I feel that boring because my teacher always give some boring examples, that makes me lose my interest and get bad grade. However, when I came to America, I took the physics class as an academic class. First step I went to classroom, I already give up. But something happened, the teacher make jokes and show us videos to explain the boring theory. The teacher makes everything theory alive, and I am interesting for study physics and got the nice grade in the final. Interest is a very important part to control how a person may focus on one thing. It can affect student effort and can most be seen in people work. Sometimes, schools ask students keep away from other subjects, like sports, music or art, but they ignore students will talk about with more people outside about that topic. I agree with that statement from Gerald Graff’s “Hidden Intellectualism,” because I believe the most important thing for students are learning about what makes you happy, and not something we heard from other said we need to.
When I continue my studies in the U.S., I can have the opportunity to immerse myself in American culture. Start to meet new people from other countries, and through different organizations or associations. I think I will often to find the international student office in first year like I study in American college. Even though I need to spend more time on my study, I still will take part of time for the social and cultural scene, because I am in the U.S. This is a new beginning to adapt a new education system. As the one movie and two reading shows, there are three differences between China and America education system that I think important, too much pressure for Chinese students, Chinese presents choose the major for their children, and Chinese students should study they are interested subjects. However, if students want to feel comfortable in a new situation, that means they have to control fear and make relax as in the home country. Communicate and friendly, there are significant way for international students study and live comfortable in other countries.
