delinquent behaviour). The role of the father plays an important role in the child’s life. If the father is missing, the child will resort to violence as a way of filling the void in which the father is meant to have been in. (Cobb and Tekin, 2011)

Drugs can be seen as a social problem as they affect society as a whole. In relation to violence they can be seen as one of the main agents that encourage and influence crime. It is also very common in youth violence. In (Brook et al,2009) the results from the study showed that teenagers who used drugs more often demonstrated more frequent violent behaviour. Also, associating with friends who were deviant and friends who used drugs were related to the adolescent’s violence.

There are also many sociological theories that aid us in getting a better understanding of violence. The social learning theory suggests that violent behaviour is based on observation.

Sociological explanations of violence are more convincing as they provide a richer and in-depth explanation to the cause of violence. Biological explanations tend to focus on the brain and genetics which I believe although may have been an answer in the past, it is no longer valid as there are more obvious signs to consider when it comes to explaining crime. In addition, psychological explanations of violence firmly focus on children, it tends to ignore age and in specific adults even though they are the main perpetuators of violence.

In conclusion, I believe that violence is caused by many different factors. It is hard to determine why a person is violent by just considering one factor. There are also factors such as racism that require both factors such as sociological and biological in order to understand the concept in relation to violence. However, I think that the sociological factors are best in explaining why people are violent.
