I chose the MRI as my topic as a tribute to my dad because he’s a radiologist and has been using this piece of equipment to support me and my family for over 15 years. He came to this country as an immigrant and worked his way up from gas stations all the way to Kindred, Kaiser and HOAG. The first machine he learned to maneuver was the MRI and I have memories of me as a child going to my dad’s work on the weekends and seeing these big machines light up and rumble. The peer reviewed journal actually supported the news articles that I had found on radiology and MRI technology. The articles supported the use of MRI because of the positive effects of it such as less invasive treatment as well as being able to be radiation free. Because of this paper, the peer reviewed journal, and news articles, I was better able to understand the complex functionality of the MRI. I took a step back and looked into this field with a chemist’s perspective.
