The Effects of Stress on Young Adults

Stress can be regarded as state of mental fatigue caused by requirement of a much higher standard or performance; often it leads to some physical and mental disorders. Stress is the responsible of many problems that young people suffer. The American Psychological Association (2015) elaborated the Stress in America survey, which indicate that younger adults report experiencing the most stress and the least relief, they also report higher stress levels than older generations. In addition, stress condition can have many different negative effects on young adults. Some of these effects include psychological health problems, physical health problems and a low educational level.

Psychological health problems can affect the way you think, feel, and behave. Stress is one of the principal causes of mental problems. There are, in fact, three psychological symptoms of stress: anxiety, anger, and depression. A study by Joyce Walker (2005) describes how young people deal with stress, and indicate the risk factors for young people most vulnerable to stress, depression and self destructive behavior.

The physical health problems are another problem that affect young adults under stress condition. Some of the indicators of physical problems can be: headache, fatigue, stomachache, and muscular pains (Karriem-Norwood, 2015). Young people with those signs often are lazy and the issues do not let them stand up and do their work. Stress gives to the teenagers a chronic physical illness that makes them live even more difficult with this situation.

Often, a negative effect of stress in young adults is a low educational level. Young people with stress are more likely to skip school or stay home than their peers; which holds them back from learning and completing courses. According to a study by Pandya, Deshpande and Karani (2012) there are academic stressors as well as psychological stressors that affect the performance of students. As a result, all the stress sign mentioned earlier directly influence the education of young adults who are stressed out.

In conclusion, stress is characterized by feelings of tension, frustration, worry and sadness. Stress condition also clearly create an uncomfortable situation in young adults that can be manifested as physical and as psychological health problems. As well, stress environment can affect their educational level and causing low academic performance.

Nonetheless, stress can be manage through different guidelines, which can improve the prevention and incidence of stress in young adults. To illustrate, firstly the person has to beware of constant fatigue. Besides, young adults must exercise, learn relaxation exercises and eat regularly. They also should take a break from stressful situations and with time young
