Ticker Timer Analysis
Motion Of My Hand
By Max Mathew
Aim: To analyse the motion of my hand using a Ticker Timer.
Apparatus: Pencil, black pen, 1 ticker timer, paper ribbon, 1 metre ruler, battery pack with alternating current, connecting wires
Method:
Set up apparatus required as shown below:
2. Connect the wires provided from the ticker timer to the ac power supply(not dc, make sure the power supply is turned off and the power supply is set to 10 volts).
3. Collect and insert the paper ribbon through the ticker timer and leave a bit of paper ribbon sticking out for you to pull through.
4. Turn the ticker timer on and pull the ribbon through the ticker timer then accelerate through until the end of the ribbon has come through the other side.
5. This was a practice pull, see if there are any double dots produced onto the ribbon, if so speak to the teacher.
6. Now repeat steps 3 and 4 again. (note. This is your paper ribbon that you will doing your analysis with, so make sure the dots are produced well and clearly, if not clear enough get a pen and go over the dots and colour them in so they are visible to be seen).
7. If your experiment was done correctly, you should have dots across in some sort of configuration like this:
….. . . . . . . . . . . .
8. Take your ribbon and put a line through every 3rd dot.
9. Count how many lines you have.
10. If there is more than 14 lines, tear of the extra bits.
11. Once you have done all the above, measure the distance from the first line to the second line the from the first line to the third line then from first to fourth and so on until you reach the end.
12. Now record these measurements in a table like the one shown in the results section.
13. Also make a graph to show the measurements like shown in the results section.
14. You have now completed the ticker timer motion analysis practical.
