Maheswari (2017), maintains that since Idealist belief in the morality and character development, they therefore argue that the teacher should serve as a role model to the learners, the idealist holds the role of the teacher to be that of an important position. Sooraj (2011) sees the teacher as a spiritual guide whose sole responsibility is to guide the learner from darkness into light, furthermore the teacher serves as a role model to be emulated by the student through example and guidance on the lifelong habits of patience, tolerance and perseverance towards a goal.
In terms of teaching methodology the teacher should be able to use the Socratic Method, that of question and answer, this method will probe learners to think and in the process their mental faculties will be developed. Dialectic is another teaching methodology that ought to be used by the teacher, dialectic is a process where ideas are put into battle against each other, or put in other words any formal system of reasoning that arrives at truth by exchanging logical arguments. These methodologies must be used by the teacher in order to develop the mental faculties of students. The teacher should therefore present factual knowledge and cultivate the norms for the learners mid to work upon.
In conclusion, one can argue that Idealism is a relevant philosophical school of thought that needs to be used in schools, since it encourages learners to think and thus develops cognitive development ad good character building. If learners are to graduate from a school institution they should be in a position to interact with the world, as they will be able to use their minds. Schools of thoughts such as Realism and Pragmatism could also be used to augment Idealism in producing a holistic learner.
