is this going to affect the community and how are we going to try to keep tract of the people? Almost all offenders had to serve a period on parole once they get released from state prison due to the agreement they have made; it mainly depends on the crime they have committed. Once a person is on parole it is mandatory that they report to a state agent when they return to the community they live in and must obey they rules they are given. If parolees do not obey the can be automatically sent back to jail. They are not allowed to carry a weapon at all, hang out with gang members, do random drug tests and other inspections; officers can do searches without a warrant. Also, they can return to prison for up to one year if found to have been involved in new criminal activity by an officer. Or they could be tried by a court and sentenced for the new crime, earning a new prison term. According to prisonlaw.com “In California, about two-thirds of released prisoners are returned to state prison within three years, a troublingly high recidivism rate.” They have a lot of regulations that they must abide by; however, just knowing that these people are going to be all over our community is just daunting and people should have read into detail before they voted on the third strike rule.
How do I feel about this legislation? I believe that people should pay there time in prison and should have known better before they committed another crime. There are countless individuals that are so use to being behind bars, because that is all they know. Committing crimes are like a job; they know nothing else it is what they are using too. These convicts knew what they were getting into before they decided to get their third strike or commit another crime. Some people do not learn from their mistakes.
