in the back. Lennon had died by 11:15 on the way the to the hospital (Mark Chapman: The Assassination of John).
The bond Lennon shared with America and the timing of the death bruised the hearts of many Americans, leaving society full of confusion and heart-ache. In 1963, after President John F. Kennedy had been assassinated, the people needed someone they could relate to and love. This is where Lennon fit in. He became somewhat a "Legend" as someone American people couldn’t help but love. To this day, Lennon’s life has an impact on society. People look for reassurance and find strength through Lennon’s message and harmony. We live in a world of confusion, depression, violence, and racism, but those who look for peace turn to Lennon’s life. Even though he is not physically present to share his ideas and preach peace, for many he is the driving force behind their faith in peace.
In the end, Mark Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison, and has since had eight denied parole hearings. Chapmans next hearing is scheduled for August 2016. Even now, the hopes and dreams of Lennon still live on in American hearts today, and the legend of “Beatlemania” still whispers throughout the land. As we continue throughout life let us remember the peaceful message of John Lennon and keep his dream alive.
