The last theme that Moll represented is Hardening. She was motivated by greed to become a hardened person. She committed the worst of criminal acts, for example when the thought of killing the child crosses he mind just for a necklace.

Defoe showed Moll in an ironic way about her morals, for example when she steals the necklace she feels that she is actually doing the child a favor and what kind of favor is that!

Moll is also showed as Merciful in her relationships with her husbands and lovers. She loved the elder, she helped he second husband to escape, and her husbands and lovers. Her relationship with jimmy was full of love. The only thing that comforted her when she was in Newgate was the fact that jimmy was also there.

Moll Flanders is a contradictory character. She is a criminal in all ways but she also is faithful to the ones she is with.

Moll's vanity and greed are the main points in the novel. From first years of her life she had the desire to become a gentle woman when she was just a servant. These desires of her for money throughout her life lead her to a fortune and misfortune life.
