Miyazaki’s work was ahead of its time. This is shown time and time again, as messages that he sends through his work ‘Spirited Away’ Still resonate strongly, even in 2016, a decade and a half after the release of the film. Some messages are strong; some are subtle, but many are there. One thing that is proven time and time again is that depending on who watches the anime and tries to take meaning from it, something different can be taken. This speaks volumes to the intricacy of the anime as it is able to communicate directly and indirectly. Miyazaki must be praised on the courage that it takes and took at the time of the release of Spirited Away, to release something with such strong environmental context to such a wide audience. Perhaps this is what caused the anime to resonate so strongly with so many people, all over the world. Or perhaps it was the Japanese culture. The hearts and soul of the people that he so flawlessly communicated to the world. A world in desperate need of a herbal-bath. A world in desperate need of Hayao Miyazaki.
