A. There is already a minimal contribution of biomass in the recent energy statistics.
B. There are ways in order for the biomass energy production to increase
1. Biomass energy production in the Philippines can increase if more industrial companies would use biomass technology.
2. Biomass energy production in the Philippines can increase if there will be waste to energy plants that will operate in the country.
CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM
INTRODUCTION
Our world is full of resources in which human used it every day to sustain their needs. Humans are very productive in creating things in order for to make their life easier. People always use earth’s resources and extracted many and uncountable materials for such purpose and use. People consume earth’s resources for food, clothing, buildings, new products and technologies that contain more man made components such as synthetic fabrics, plastics, metals, etc. in which are present today. As people consume these resources, not all of this are completely and fully used. Some are thrown away, decayed and never been used that it can be called as waste.
The increasing amount of waste being produced around the Philippines is a serious problem and a major threat to the environment. Mostly the waste in the Philippines are from man-made products or inorganic waste in which it takes thousands of years to break down and the rest are organic waste. This is only part of the problem. Basically, it comes down to this: were producing more garbage than the earth can handle, and were running out of places to put it. Waste cannot be simply thrown away anymore, the more the waste the more it is a threat to the environment. But something has to be done to this problem, in order to prevent our environment in collapsing because of our avidity, the researchers need to make a solution for it, not to totally solving the problem but to minimize or reduced it and also make use for it. By using these waste as a renewable energy. Through this the researchers can transform this as an alternative source of energy like electricity and biofuels. By using these process and our knowledge, the researchers are able to make use of it as our daily power consumption that can help fix the problem in power shortage in the Philippines.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This paper attempts to determine on how waste energy can be used as mean of renewable energy in the Philippines.
Thesis Statement: The use of waste energy in the Philippines can help minimize the recent problem on energy crisis.
Specially, this study seeks to answer the following guide questions:
- How can waste energy help the society as well as the environment?
- What are the benefits of using waste to energy in Philippines?
- How much energy does biomass currently contribute in energy production in the Philippines and how can it increase?
SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
The finding of this study is beneficial to the following:
Researchers. This study serves as a valuable knowledge to the researches in which this study is related to the course taken and it also serves as a preliminary guide in the upcoming final year project in the curriculum. Through this, the researches can make use of this as an information to start the process of implementing the waste to energy concept. It also serves as a draft in taken measures, if ever this study will be successful and can be applied in real life scenario.
Researchers Course or Field. Through the information gathered in the study, this will serve as a basis of improvements and to make some changes for better results. The researchers can more generalize the pattern and steps in making this study possible. Furthermore, this concept will be used in the upcoming final year project. The application of waste to energy study will be applied in the aspect of renewable energy and to support the researcher’s knowledge relating to their field.
Researchers Society. The purpose of this study is to apply waste to energy project in the community and in our country. Not only it helps to reduce the number of waste in our environment but also it also reduces the energy crisis happening in the Philippines. The will power thousands of home using the waste in our environment. Thus, the efficiency of waste to energy project is high because the source of energy comes from the basic waste produced in our society like market waste.
Scope and limitation
The study focuses on how the conversion of waste to energy help in the recent energy crisis as well as the environment and its benefits. It discusses the different ways on how the conversion of waste to energy contribute to satisfy the energy demand of the people. The impact to the environment is also tackled in this study because the environmental effects are greatly discussed in every energy source. The benefits of converting waste to energy is also part of the study since converting waste to energy has benefits to go along with it. This study does not include other types of energy sources nor does it make comparison. This only include the discussion on waste to energy conversion. The means of gathering data is by doing researches on books, articles, and other research papers.
Research methodology of the study
First, the researchers have brainstormed in order to have a topic for the term paper. Second, the general topic on energy sources is considered then it narrowed down to renewable energy and then narrowed down even further to the conversion of waste to energy. Third, the researchers have then constructed a topic sentence and a thesis statement. Fourth, some sources for the paper were gathered and from the sources notecards were also made. Fifth, an outline is made to organize the answers to the guide questions. Sixth and last step, chapters 1 to 4 are used to gathered data from steps 1 to 5.
The researchers have made researches mostly from books, articles, and research papers that are related to the topic. Information that are not relevant to the topic was not considered. From books, the researchers have gathered some data and facts that talks
