In some cases logic can come across as the coldest of the three of the rhetorical appeals, but at the same time it can be persuasive and reassuring when you’re in need of information that you can trust. The CDC’s webpage brings facts to the reader from page one. The webpage starts pointing out on page one that they will discuss the signs, symptoms, types causes and treatment for ADHD. The fact that the CDC relies on doctors and organizations that speachlize in ADHD lends to the links persuasive and factual information aspect. The webpage also shows at what point all the information on the webpage was last updated and reviewed to keep it current and reliable.
Conclusion
We have discussed the CDC’s webpage on ADHD and if it has made good use of ethos, logos
and pathos, and it seems they have. Nagib and Belkis Cellaos point out in the Journal of
Systemic, Clemetics information “that there are areas that should be addressed with regard to the
rhetorical triad, of ethos, pathos and logos” They go on to say “ convincing by means of
character, integrity and credibility of academics as author, educator and / or consultant” .
Berlanga f. Garcia/J.S Victoria Madrid point out in Ethos, Pathos and Logos in Facebook and
user networking: New Rhetorical of the 21st Century “communication on the internet, a new
paradigm”. They basically point out by virtual nature of design the internet is interpersonal. So
by losing its human touch the creators of the CDC webpage attempted to cross that dived by
talking directly to people’s emotions which in this case is parents and caregivers. In the end the
CDC webpage has done just that.
