Magwitch, the man with the golden heart, he only wanted to prove that he and anyone else can be big, can be important. After Magwitch was convicted a longer sentence than Compeyson when both being blamed for various frauds. He felt cheated for doing a full sentence because he was of lower class, with lower money, and he was not rich:

“Dear boy and Pip’s comrade. I am not a-going fur to tell you my life, like a song or a story-book. But to give it you short and handy, I’ll put it at once into a mouthful of English. In jail and out of jail, in jail and out of jail, in jail and out of jail. There, you got it. That’s my life pretty much, down to such times as I got shipped off, arter Pip stood my friend." Magwitch saw a kid who helped him, in a sense he saw himself and his daughter in that kid, “She lived and found powerful friends. She is living now. She is a lady and very beautiful.” He was determined to prove to Compeyson that a poor boy who has nothing (Pip) can become a rich gentlemen. You can be anything, you put your mind too.
