from those women, as she explains to Creon, due to the fact that Medea had never used her power for her own hurtful means. She shows that she has never done anything remotely bad that can categorize her to do any such evil actions towards others. Despite these concrete facts, many believe that her actions were all under her own control and that she has an aspect of evil.

Those who oppose claim that Medea reacted abnormally bad to the breakup between Jason and her. This is incorrect because Medea acted under emotions that were out of her control. Medea was in love with Jason so when she found out that he only used her and then left her, her actions are reasonable under these circumstances due to the fact that those emotions are produced not through her own will but through her environment around her. They also claimed Medea’s actions that she took out on her children were all sought out under her own control. This is invalid because of how she went about with this event. Medea did have regret and doubt of killing her children as she claims “oh miserable heart! Let them be! Spare my children” (Euripides 49 ). She has these doubts in her mind of killing her children showing that she has compassion, yet the only reason that she went through with these actions was the hatred that she had acquired for Jason. Jason had created these terrible feelings that Medea had for him, so Medea’s actions can be justified through it being Jason’s fault and not hers.

Medea had done some very questionable actions throughout the play but these actions can be justified through these reasons that her judgment was clouded through the actions of Jason and that Medea had no vengeful background showing she was a safe person. Medea was the victim of a man’s attitude toward women as seen throughout the play.
