her heros. This helps her mature and get ready for adulthood because she learns how to deal with situations like these and learns to move on.
Elie Wiesel went through one of the hardest eras in all of history. He was only a kid when he experiences the Holocaust. Millions of innocent Jews and others were mercilessly killed during this time. Elie had to experience the losses of his neighbors, friends and family. Not only did he lose people, but he loses his faith in God. He prays to God everyday hoping that the war will end. The war doesn’t end and he starts to lose his faith in God because he hasn’t freed anyone by now. This is a wakeup call for adulthood because when people get older, you can’t always believe in the same idea and you may have to choose another idea that better fits the situation.
Marji had to deal with a similar problem. She had a very good relationship with God. She was chosen by God to become a prophet and she wants to fulfill that role. Later on in the book, she sees all of these leaders die in war and she sees them as “heros”. These so called heros were revolutionaries. She wanted to be just like them. After a while, they ended up ruining her relationship with God because God wanted her to become a prophet, but she wanted to become a revolutionary. This helps her mature by letting her see how she needs to evaluate her decisions before she makes them.
The events in Elie Wiesel and Marjane Satrapi’s life prepared them for adulthood.
Marji and Elie both had to grow up faster than most kids. They had to experience the loss of a loved one. It takes a very long time for people to overcome a loss of a loved one. It may take a few weeks to a few years to get over a tragedy like that. No one has to get over a death to be an adult, but a death just wakes people up that there are some sad endings and that everyone has to die at some point. Another experience that these two people had to go through is a loss in faith. These two people had their faith set on one specific idea. They both had to adjust to their beliefs when they lost faith. This set them up for adulthood because sticking to one idea is not always the best answer. Life is about making adjustments.
