Last but not least, our behavior also plays a big role on how an individual identity is shaped. People may partly construct this sense of self – or identity – by reflecting on their own behavior, that is, when a behavior is frequently performed, it is more likely to become part of a person’s self-concept (Bem, 1972). The way we act and treat other people can also define our identity as a person. Our behavior is something that we get from respond to our environment and our perception to ourselves. For example if I behave rudely to a person that I just met, chances are he/she may think that I am rude and if I act in a polite way, chances are he/she thinks that I am polite. So therefore, think twice before you act and speak because how you treat and speak to people is the reflection of your true identity.
In conclusion, there are many reasons on how an individual get their identity from. It might takes times to realize your true identity as a person but through the process of finding your identity, there will be always some lessons to learn and to be put in mind as an experience and knowledge for an individual to prepare themselves in the future. There are may be negative and positives sides finding your identity, but it is never too late to find the true meaning of who you really are. Nevertheless; the only one who can define yourself, is your own true self, no one can define who you are. So therefore, always stay true to yourself while finding your self-identity.
