my life with. The kids at school had been horrible. They only found pleasure in taunting Laura Pad foot. The only girl in the entire school with auburn hair and freckles. Rosemary was the only person who had admired the auburn of my hair, and the many freckles that dominated my cheeks. "You have your mother’s freckles", grandma had always said. I had always been contented when rosemary was by my side. The only other place I found serenity in, was the estate my grandmother possessed.
I walked towards the parkland behind Rosemary’s manor. As I spotted my old swing, I quickly ran and in a fit of impulse I sat on the rusty metal, and began to swing. I felt free as the chilly evening air rushed against my warm cheeks. The smell of luscious brown honey cakes and sweet apple juice rushed back, enticing my senses as I heard the placid voice of grandma beckoning for me to return to the manor. I was stuck in a vortex of memories. I felt tears running down my hot cheeks as I pictured grandma standing beside me.
A sharp squeal brought me back to reality. I immediately hopped off the swing as it fell on the ground with a sharp thud. I cried as I saw the last of what reminded me of my beloved Rosemary, the past had crumbled into dust just like the rusty swing. Yet now I had finally come to accept that Rosemary had died. I had come to realise that I had to move on, and although Rosemary’s death had been a painful blow it had allowed me to understand the inevitability of death. I knew that this was the way it had to be.
