What man would want to find out that their wife is their biological mom? No one, this is a real tragedy. Lauis and Jocasta made a mistake by giving their son away. Either way if it was Apollo’s will for Oedipus’ fate to kill his father and sleep with his mother then it was going to happen anyway. If Lauis and Jocasta would have kept their baby instead of trying to prevent what Apollo had prophesied to them, it probably would have resulted in a better outcome for everyone involved. Also, Oedipus could have taken Teiresias, truth and looked at his past instead of accusing Teiresias and Kreon for the murder and trying to set him up for murder. Kreon was his brother-in-law, throughout the story he seemed like he would never do such a thing. Kreon was so humble while Oedipus was accusing him because he knew the truth that he didn’t do it.
This play is a true tragedy because Oedipus could not escape his fate. He killed his father, slept with and married his mother without even knowing they were his parents. To make it even worse it was his fate, so it was all supposed to happen. He was a king and he lost all of his power. He made his situation even worse when he took Jocasta’s pins, after she hung herself from finding out the truth, and stabbed himself in the eyes and became blind. You can’t run away from God’s will for you as well as the truth. If you do it’s only going to make things worse. The best thing to do is to have serenity and live your life to the fullest.
