There is an old saying goes, “Your ideal seems developed fully, but the reality is actually skinny.” Even though reality sometimes is cruel, we are supposed to face it, challenge it and even change it. “Reality is a gray area. Some people may truly hear spirits, talk to them or see them”(“Reality Essay”). “The Martians were there—in the canal—reflected in the water. Timothy and Michael and Robert and Mom and Dad.”(268) Between the choice of illusion and reality, The Martian Chronicles ends with the reality that humans become Martians. Accepting your situation doesn’t mean you have to like it, but you should try to adapt it or change it. First, people ought to realize that the world they live, the people they get in touch with, and the events they experience compose their real life. In the situation that humans have to live in Mars, from another point of view, the migration means a new start. People are able to develop new culture, new life style and new laws, creating a new world which they hope for. By looking on the bright side of your life, the phycological scar may unconsciously die away. Nonetheless, refusing to accept your current life, can contribute to anxiety, chronic mental pain. Illusion just like the escapist behaviors—being crapulent or drinking too much alcohol.

Fantasy is like chocolate, yet chocolate is not exhaustless; chocolate is sweet, but it fails to mitigate your pain. However, medicine can cure your scar though it’s not tasteful. No matter what happen to you, try not to escape the reality, or the disillusionment of hope will lead to despair.
