During the Christmas dinner party, Suzie, the girl he was dating shows up. She confronts him about his lies about his fake two year old son called Ned. Of Course Suzie is mad at Will and he prepares to leave. Marcus made a scene and begs wills not to leave. His mom Fiona doesn´t like Will but she doesn´t tell him to leave. Even though Will wants to go he decides to stay for Marcus. They ended up spending dinner together and everything went well.

Will’s turning point is set late in the novel when he met Rachel and surprisingly fell in love with her. Marcus helped him understanding how he, as a grown-up man could develop a deeper relationship to other, and to let life in through his cynical and ironic shell. Will has realized that it is possible to live a carefree life, bring joy to others and be happy at the same time.
Will realized that Rachel changed his life and he decided to take on the responsibility that comes with a love relationship and serious friendships with Suzie, Fiona, and Marcus.

Marcus, who was originally looking for a stepfather, has realized that Will can never be that, but that life goes on and may bring pleasant surprises at any moment.

Marcus didn’t tell him about his problems because he grew up and was aware of the fact that he doesn’t have to depend on a father that’s never around because he has plenty of other people that are here for him. Those people were Will, Suzie, Fiona, Ellie and others.
