& PERSONAL TIME MANAGEMENT

“ Time is also a unique resource. Of the other major resources, money is actually quite plentiful. People—the third limiting resource—one can hire. But one cannot rent, hire, buy or otherwise obtain more time. The supply of time is totally inelastic. No matter how high demand, the supply will not go up. Moreover, time is totally perishable and cannot be stored. Yesterday’s time is gone forever and will never come back. Time is, therefore, always in exceedingly short supply. ” Peter et.al ( 2006, pp.25-27 ) . Time itself cannot be managed. It is constant and it always goes forward, never backwards. Everyone has the same amount of time in a day. Therefore, if you are managing time, you are trying to make the best use of your time. What is the meaning of time management? Time management is the act of taking conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities to increase productivity effectiveness.

Here are the Top Six Time Management approaches that help us to increase our daily success in less time and less stress.

Staying healthy helps improve time management. Without health, one will not have the effort to manage time efficiently. Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times helps to function well throughout the day. Students who are sleep deficient are less productive at school. They have slower reaction and make more mistakes. Studies show that adequate sleep, exercising regularly and making smart food choices improve learning, helps in paying attention, make decisions, and be creative.

Peter et.al (2006, p.51 ) informs that one highly effective man I know keeps two such lists—one of the urgent and one of the unpleasant things that have to be done—each with a deadline. When he finds his deadlines slipping, he knows his time is again getting away from him. Therefore, Time Management Tools are an effective measure in managing time wisely. To do list, weekly planner and action plans are list of tasks that need to be performed. These are extremely important time management tools included the time management matrix. These help to separate the important jobs from the trivial ones and tackle the important ones first. An activity log is a written record of how you spend your time. According to Jim (2001, p.143), “Stop doing lists” are more important than “to do” lists. By keeping an activity log or stop doing list, you can build up an accurate picture of what you do during the day, and how you invest your time. It is also useful to identify non-core activities that do not help to meet important objectives. By having these time management tools, one will see how much time wasted on meaningless activities and change the way that you work to eliminate them.

One of the most unfortunate ideologies of today is Technology Distraction. The thought of keeping updated causes one to check the social media gadget constantly. To avoid distractions, identify what distract you and then take proactive measures to not letting them distract you again. Minimize computer use especially the internet. One will learn better writing things out yourself. Also refrain from using cell phone as you will be replying to texts every minute which is very distracting. Furthermore, find a study partner who is sensible and focused like you on the same task. It is a great mean as ideas can bounce off each other. Listening to music while doing things cause distraction. To avoid distractions, try not giving your brain anything else to focus on while studying as the brain has to process to the information one is trying to learn.

Learning to balance both academic and sport is crucial to manage time wisely. Reading helps increases general knowledge and helps open mind up to new ways of thinking as well as having better ideas. Doing revision stimulates deeper understanding and assist recall of lessons learned. Handing homework and assignment on time help to discipline students and use time wisely instead of killing long hours doing meaningless activities. Adequate involvement in sports is important in improving one’s health. By maintaining academic and sport in equilibrium, students can maximize potential to excel on the field and in the classroom.

One’s attitude is important in achieving management of time wisely. Of the most important steps one can take is to learn monitoring your progression. A checklist should be made so that things we have to do daily will always be reminded. Follow up timetable that have planned persistently to ensure that work will be done systematically and increases productivity.

Incorporating proper time management skills and SMART goals setting in daily routine helps in the improvement of several panoramas in life and associate success. To achieve my academic goals, it is suitable to set the SMART goal. The SMART framework allows me to write meaningful goals and work hard to achieve it. SMART goal included five dimensions, which is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-related.

Academic goal means a lot to me. My main academic goal is to be a “B+” in every subject. This goal is smart because it is completely attainable. I can maintain a “B+” or higher in every semester tests. If you aim a certain goal, working hard comes naturally and success will always follow. This goal is also smart because it is realistic. I believe that my goal will be completed and achieved at the correct level. This goal is also timely because I have a whole school quarter to obtain my goal. During the process achieving my SMART goal, I will keep an eye on my grades and monitor the progression to ensure that everything goes well. This is why my academic goal is so important and smart.

My second academic goal is study every day when i get home from school and hand up assignments given on time. The goal of study every day consider as realistic because I can achieve this goal by doing revision for an hour every day which can help understanding topics better. This also makes it an attainable goal because i can do it every day and achieve it. The goal of handing up assignments given on time is timely because I can ensure them to be handed up on time without delaying so that marks will not
