promises to marry the key parts of the workstation experience with the ability to access anything from anywhere seamlessly” (Brick, 2013).

When looking at a DaaS for a business you have to think of the total cost of ownership. Is it better to build your own virtual desktop infrastructure or rent a DaaS? For some businesses, it might be better to use a DaaS. For example, a new start up company might look at money spent on producing goods or growing the company would be better spent than on buying a new infrastructure. Desktop as a Service said that with DaaS, they can use a cloud-based solution for the back office just like they use cloud-based solutions for other key operations — Salesforce.com for CRM, Office 365 for Microsoft Office apps and Workday for billing and HR, for example (Desktop as a Service, 2014). It can also save money for the new start up on training new employees. Desktop as a Service also stated, ”It can take a fraction of the time to get new hires up to speed when using DaaS instead of company-owned hardware” (Desktop as a Service, 2014). If you use the “bring your own device” method, employees should already be up to speed on what their device can do. Desktop as a Service said that with the credentials they need, they can access the company’s custom software, trading apps and activity feeds in a flash and entire offices can be up and leaping ahead in no time flat (Desktop as a Service, 2014). These cloud-based services can makes the adjustments into a new venture easier. And once the business is up and running and creating a profit then these services can be brought in house.

With all of the savings a DaaS can bring to a new firm or cost cutting it could do for a small business it could become a valuable tool in the market place. In the competitive forces model the position of an organization is greatly affected by new market entrants, and customers. With the saving made by a small business it would be hard for new market entrants to low ball the organization. The firm could also pass on the savings to the customer depending on what the service or product they are providing. This will allow the organization to focus on one or two of the generic strategies that the information technology would enable them too, either low cost leadership or being able to strengthen the customer and supplier relationship.

DaaS provides a useful solution that can bring greater flexibility, ease of administration, and reduced costs to the right kind of businesses. DaaS can help cut costs in a variety of different ways. It can make the administrative and management tasks much easier, because every attached workstation can use the same desktop.
