Perspective about Race
How could the perspective regarding race or ethnicity change as a result of the Penn State Scandal and the abuse by Jerry Sandusky? To be blunt, it furthers the idea that white people do not care about black people. It shows the racial division currently encapsulating the country. In a culture currently kicking and screaming about racial equality, the abuse would just further the separation between white and black people. How could a white man get away with abusing young black boys for 12 years? Don’t their black lives matter? We would see protests, rallies, and if we follow the current trend- riots. Without knowing the races of the children for sure, we can only guess at what might be

Maybe we are lucky that the races of the children were never disclosed in the grand jury transcript and all we can do is assume. As a country currently so focused on racial division, maybe it is just best to view this as what is it on the most basic level- A horrible, terrible, despicable act by an even worse human being that could have been stopped. What if the kids were black? What if he was black and the kids were white? In an act so heinous does it even truly matter? The only thing that should have happened is that it should have been stopped and those children should have been protected from a monster. White or black, yellow or green, the children should have been safe.
