I believe that shopping in a mall a very much a more enriching experience because you don’t have to go out for shopping in a mall, you can just go and hang out do window shopping, eat, watch some movie or even play same games, have a nice pass time and return. But when it comes to making a purchase at retail then you go there only to shop and not for hanging out. It’s like go- get- comeback and nothing more experience and moreover you don’t get to enjoy by playing some games or having food. So i think malls are more of experience and retails are more of just buying.

Describe the best shopping experience at a mall?

The best shopping experience i had was at the Inorbit mall , it was my birthday and i was giving a treat to my friends at the food outlet over there, i being a regular customer of the mall was given a feedback form once upon a time in the mall and i filled it casually... i remember that there was a date of birth column mentioned there and i filled it.. whenever i went to the mall i observed that there used to be a greetings dedications song wishing all their regular customers on their birthdays

And that day i was amazed to hear a song being played in the mall just for me.. When i went upto the counter to thank them for wishing me they realised that i was in the mall itself and so offered to me a discount card of 30% on all the purchases that i made on that day on the clothes. So i hurriedly went to the clothes block and bought out a few clothes at a cheaper rate. This was one of the most memorable experiences that i had.

How frequently do you go to mall? what is the reason for that frequency?

I go to a mall once in every 15-20 days. Mostly i go for buying clothes and footwear. Especially if there is a reason for celebration like birthday or festival then i go and make purchases. Some times if i have got nothing to do then i generally hang out with my friends in the mall, watch a movie, eat food and return. I mostly buy cosmetics from the malls and i buy them once in 6-8 months so for particularly buying cosmetics i go to a mall.

How frequently do you go to the retail stores?

I go to the retail stores once in 4-5 days. In general we make the monthly purchases for the grocery at once a time in a month but for some or the other small requirements i keep going to the shop and even for buying vegetables which i purchase say around two or three times a week i go to the store.

Whenever i am in urgent need of something i just go and make the purchase. Suppose that some guests suddenly turn out then i go and get some food stuff and cold drinks from it, whenever i fell like eating a chocolate i just go and buy , so keeping all these small- small purchases in mind i can say that i go the shop 3-4 times a week.

Who all are involved in the purchasing decision when you are buying at a mall?

Generally when i go to the mall i am with my friends or family. The purchasing decision depends on for whom the purchase is being made and from whose pocket it is being made. If i am shopping with friends for myself then i make the decision with respect to the colour, pattern, cost, brand etc. But if i am shopping with my family then my parents make the decision regarding the cost while i make the decision with respect to the design.

How long do you spend in the mall?

See.. it depends on the amount of free time i have.. generally we go to the mall only when there is free time or when we urgently want some branded stuff... if i go at leisure then i spend about 4-5hrs in the malls, if i am in a hurry to buy some particular thing say some shirt that i need urgently then i finish it off in around 45 minutes. I prefer going to the mall for quick purchases because we get all brands at a single place and also there is a varied choice and so in making fast purchases these will be very much useful. I usually go to the malls on Saturday because it is an off for job and also a good way for having a break from the schedule. If i go out with friends for a movie at the mall then i almost end up spending the entire day over there itself.

How long do you spend at a retail store?

I go to the retail store for fulfilling instant needs. See when we make monthly purchases at the shop then it takes a lot of time because the list is very long and so i end up spending about 45minutes to 1hr in the shop.. but sometimes we go to the shop to buy the things according to the need.. for example while preparing tea you suddenly realize that there is no sugar then you rush to the store and get back in 5-10 minutes. So i can say that at the time that i spend at the shop will range from 5 min to maximum 1hour.

What are the additional services that you expect from a shopping mall?

Any person who goes to buy something always wants to get it at the best possible and the lowest costs.. so i always expect for discounts and other such exciting offers whenever i go to a mall.in some malls there will be some sudden announcements that every nth customer who pays the bill gets a special gift or something like that.. or sometimes we go for a movie and end up getting the audio cd’s of the film that is inline for the next release then we feel nice and obviously feel to visit again. These all tiny awards make us feel good about it.. in some malls we are also given reward points for shopping and these keep on adding up whenever we shop and we can actually refund them by making purchases even without having money.. these all additional services are what i expect from a mall.

What are the additional services that you expect from a retail shop?

We go to retail shop on a very regular basis and so the additional service that can be expected would be the additional discount that the shopkeeper is willing to give us, free home delivery, on phone service that is there should be an arrangement such that we can order our needs on phone and when we get the door step delivery then pay the amount. I would also want a shop to have debit/credit card accepting machines so that we don’t have to worry even if you are not carrying the amount with you.

What are the modes of payment in a shopping mall ?

In general shopping malls accept both cash and card payments.. most of the outlets in the malls are available with swapping machines so you don’t have to carry cash with you for shopping.
