CASE A MIDSIZE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY(JENNIFER CHILDS)-(CLEMENT&GIDO)

1.(Clement & Gido).. states that an RFP is a document that defines the project s requirements. It must include a proposed approach ,schedule, and budget for meeting the project requirements and accomplishing the project scope .It must be comprehensive enough for the project team to prepare an intelligent response.

Jennifer ‘s RFP is not sufficient enough for it lacks a lot of infor that an RFP should have according to the definition. An RFP should contain

  • project objective
  • it must provide statement of work
  • customer requirements
  • it should state the deliverables the customers expect the contractor to provide
  • it should state the acceptance criteria
  • it should list any customer supplied items
  • Schedule for completion of the work
  • Evaluation criteria for the projects
  • Due date for submitting the project reports.
  • Etc….  Therefore

There is a lot of missing information on her RFP thertefore its not sufficient enough and will strain the managers when they are trying to prepare their proposals.

  • Julie chen is researching on a new drug(needs to hire a more experienced scientist and buy more lab equipment

Production manager s proposal

  • Tyler Ripken production flow is inefficient

It was caused by poor planning after firm expansion. He wants to form employee teams to implement betterlayout of equipment in the plant

This will increase plant capacity and reduce cost

 

Operations manager s proposal

Jeff Matthews  responsible for computors and IT believes the system is outdated, the old computors cant hold the volumes of the transactions now. He believes new computors and systems will increase cash flow by producing invoices in time

Manager of marketing ‘s proposal

Joe Sanchez  wants  a large budget to hire more sales representatives in additional countries. But he did not receive an RFP.

He is waiting on the disagreements of the 3 managers to get funds.

2) Regarding the business case, which precedes the program proposal, what should the order of priority for implementing the projects in the portfolio be in order to maximize the strategic organizational benefits?

  • A project or a group of projects that needs to be implemented in the organization with the additional funds available with the purpose of increasing or decreasing the costs - By Jennifer
  •  Developing a new drug which can be sold worldwide and could claim to be the first to market the drug worldwide. - Julie Chen
  • The implementation of the new factory layout to increase the efficiency of the system which ultimately reduces the cost - by Taylor Ripken
  •  Upgrading the computer system's of the company which includes accounting and customer service processes - by Jeff Mathews
  •  Although not asked by Jennifer, this suggestion was made to increase the sales force worldwide thus helps to increase the sales - by Joe Sanchez

Major deliverables for the 4 stated projects above are

  • Hiring the specialized scientists, and
  •  procuring new lab equipment

 For operations manager‘s objective the key deliverable is

  • purchasing the sophisticated new computer's and
  •  installing upgraded software

3) For Preoduction manager objective the key deliverable is –

  • Forming employee teams for implementing better production layout

4) For Marketing manager 's objective the key deliverable is

  • Hire/recruit the new sales force
