In chapter four of this book, Schermerhorn, Davidson, Poole, Woods, Simon and McBarron (2014) outline “the emergence and implications of a global workplace” (p: 89). The aim of chapter four is to understand international management challenges of globalisation, international business forms and opportunities, what multinational corporations are and their functions, what culture is and its relativity to global diversity, and how management practices and learning vary across cultures. The rationale behind this chapter is to educate on managerial responsibilities and practices within MNCs, with the consideration of globalisation and cultural ethics, and understanding the forms of international businesses. The chapter presents qualitative data through observational evaluation on diversity. For example, Levi Strauss & Co. incorporated a training program that complies with discrimination standards. The chapter also presents qualitative data in various case studies. This chapter will be useful to my research as it defines management terminologies and provides an understanding of cultural diversity and the ethics involved in managing relationships, and the issues of management in multinational corporations, specifically global operations and how management is practiced in various countries. The limitations of the chapter include that it does not provide many case studies to support the issues of globalisation and that it does not explain concepts, rather defines them. In conclusion, the chapter discusses MNCs and their practices with relation to international businesses, culture and globalisation. This chapter will form the foundation of my research as it clearly defines the objectives of my topic and provides examples of management challenges.
