Associated Companies

Exxon Mobil Corp. (ExxonMobil) is an American multinational oil and gas corporation. It is the largest direct descendant of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company,[11] and was formed by the merger of Exxon (formerly Standard Oil Company of New Jersey) and Mobil (formerly the Standard Oil Company of New York). ExxonMobil is the world's 8th largest company by revenue[12].

Imperial cooperates with ExxonMobil Corp. in a joint venture oil sands mining operation, called Kearl Oil Sands[13]. ExxonMobil owns hundreds of smaller subsidiaries such as Imperial Oil Limited in Canada.

Although Imperial and ExxonMobil have cooperated mining, most of Imperial's production comes from vast natural resource holdings in the Alberta Oil sands[14] and the Norman Wells oil field in the Northwest Territories[15].

Image/impression

Imperial’s annual report is presented clearly and with many visual aids. They use blue as a natural color scheme throughout the report which recalls feelings of depth and stability and can be associated with the sky and sea. The first image on the report is of a woman, sitting beside a tractor, satisfied in her imperial uniform equipped with a well fit construction helmet and goggles. The second image is of two men standing in a factory discussing the different premise of the factory procedures. Imperial’s mission “to provide quality petrochemical products and services efficiently and responsibly” can be seen throughout the reports[16]. As well as the report has several pictures that emphasize problem solving, safety and diversity. Imperial’s annual report also reflects its focus on safety for their employees and contractors, as well as being ethical and trusted handlers of the world's natural resources.

Conclusion

Our team concludes that, based on the evidence collected in the company analysis, imperial is one of Canada’s leading largest petrochemical producers and is the second largest publicly traded oil company in the country. We also conclude that the scope of this audit is very large therefore planning is essential to eliminate any unnecessary costs of obtaining audit evidence.
